This past week on January 18th we lost John E. Shelton. John possessed beauty of face, hair, voice, and the authentic ability with a wink from his eye or a beautiful smile, to turn a stranger into both a friend and a fan. As many of you know his aura shined so bright, that he lit other’s faces whether singing or just by being in his presence.
John was born on Bryan Air Force Base in Texas on December 24, 1955. As the third child of five, he was a son of a famous POW father, Colonel Charles Ervin Shelton, and a mother, Marion that devoted her life to spreading the word that those left behind can not be forgotten. This unique childhood nurtured an unbreakable bond with his siblings that evolved and lasted a lifetime.
John was predeceased by his mother and father; and his brother Michael who passed away this past July, and who awaits with open arms John's arrival in Heaven.
John leaves behind his sisters Lea Anne Shelton and Joan May, his brother Rev. Charles Shelton, nephew Christian and his wife Kim, nephew’s Mikey and Harrison, along with his niece Brittany. He is bonded by the length of time and depth of love he had for his sister-in-law, Belinda, Michael’s Widow. Many extended family members and cousins also survive.
John had a wonderful group of friends; Linda Powell, Clem and Trey, Amanda and Kimberly, Michael and Dean, Debbie and Brianna, Karen, Sharon Murray, Karen Waddel, Dean Weichel, Barry and Paul, George and Steve, Chuck and Jim, as well as his musical partner, Sammy Gross that he leaves behind from individualized moments that possessed the time range from grade school through college with the activities of playing football to theatre performances, and singing at open mic’ nights at Cabarets throughout the country.
John leaves behind his husband and companion of 27 years, Robert, who has vowed to love and mourn him until his dying day. And finally, his beloved fur children; Truman Porter, Charlie Brown, and Debbie Epstein.
