John retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service and retired after 10 years for being a Special Deputy for the Sheriff's Department.
John had a passion for carpentry and welding which led to his building of two submarines, which were featured in the news. He was an inventor of many things and had a mind that everyone wanted to use. N.A.S.A. had even contacted John for his intelligent ideas and he even invested money for the further investigation and research of the Titantic. John had a love for flying and a passion for trains. He started the Kentuckiana Astronomical Society because of his love of the atmosphere around us. John was described as a very well rounded person that could do anything once the idea popped in his head.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Stella Roehrig; siblings, James Roehrig and Mary Poole.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Brenda Roehrig; children, Karen Hermes (Michael), John Roehrig, Jr. (Amanda), and Angela "Angie" Alvey (Scott); grandchildren, Michael Hermes, Jr., Matthew Roehrig, Courtney Alvey, Austin Hermes, Taylor Alvey, and Nicholas Roehrig.
A funeral service to honor the life of John will be 2pm on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Evergreen Funeral Home, with Brian Craddy officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1pm-8pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
