John was born in Louisville, KY on January 6th, 1935 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On August 11, 1956, John married his loving wife Mary Jane Grieshaber at St. Boniface. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters, John M Cooney Jr. and Mark Cooney (Rose), of Collierville, TN, Cindy Farquhar and Sandra Bazzell; grandchildren, Nicole Kleier (Jeff), Kelly Dennison (Kyle), Katie Naseman (Phil), Sarah Cooney (Tyler), and John Cooney. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Avery Kleier, Emma Kleier, Bria Kleier, and Skylar Naseman.
John retired as an Inspector at Building 3 with General Electric Appliances after 40 years in 1995. He was an original member of the American Veterans Post 61.
