John L. "Firestone John" , "Big John", McCauley, Jr., 80, of Louisville, and native of Raywick, KY, passed away peacefully with his loving children by his side, in the early morning of March 20, 2011. His work experience started with the American Tobacco Company and then he was retired from Ford Motor Company- KY Truck Plant, with 30 years of service. He also had worked with Firestone Tire Company, was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church and an avid U of K fan. John served his country with the U.S. Army and loved to do Karoake. He enjoyed talking with people, singing for them and he never met a stranger. It brought immense joy to his life to watch his grandchildren play sports, and he wasn't just their grandfather he really was their best friend and confidant.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Dolores Ruley McCauley.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Steve (Judith) McCauley, Debby (Bob) Adams, Donna (Ronnie)Smith; brothers, Joe Ben, Lee (Patti) and Tom McCauley; sisters, Katherine Mattingly and Marceline Nickum; grandchildren, Stephen (Camee) McCauley, Branden McCauley, Brent (Wendy) Smith, Michael McCauley, Nicholas (Ashley) Smith, Dallon and Taylor Adams; along with three great-grandchildren, Caitlin McCauley and Roenin and Declan Smith.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 8709 Preston Highway, with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road.
