It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the loss of John Alexander (“Alex”) Hicks on October 8, 2023 after a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's. He and his wife, Jenny, were married on April 4, 1987 and shared 36 wonderful years together.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 20, 1956, he was the son of John and Ruth Hicks and the brother of Jackie Catlett. In 1974 he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, and soon began working as a service technician for Coca Cola. After 39 years of service he retired in 2015.
Alex attended Jeffersontown Christian Church and was president of the local Louisville Speleological Society. He enjoyed caving, hiking, camping, riding the 4-wheeler, boating and wood working. One of his favorite spots was on the farm sitting around the campfire watching the billions of stars and telling stories. Of course, the more beverages he had, the better the stories became! Alex had so many great friends and loved spending time with his family. From camp outs, to Halloween parties, many vacations, and family get-togethers, he always brought smiles and laughter to the group.
Alex is survived by his wife, Jenny, and his sister Jackie Catlett (Randy), and many more loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mom and dad, (Ruth and John Hicks), uncles, aunts, and several cousins.
The celebration of life will be held on October 26, 2023 at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218. Visitation will be from 11:00-2:00 with a short service at 2:00.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the Kentucky Humane Society.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Heartsong Adult Day Health Center, Heartsong Memory Care, and Hosparus for their outstanding care and love shown to Alex and me. Also, a special thanks to my family and friends for all their love, support, and kindness through this difficult journey.
