Thinking of John today.  John and his brother Bill were fine friends and players on The Cecil Brothers softball team at the Lyndon Elks field.

John was a loyal friend and fine softball teammate.  He is missed.

We pray that God will bless and uplift your family after the sudden loss of John. He will definitely be missed by family and friends.

John was a wonderful man. He and Bill lead The Cecil Brothers softball team. We had many good times. John was one of a kind, good human being.  His death came as a sad surprise. I learned of it today.  Rest in Heaven, my friend.

I went to Holy Spirit Grade School and Trinity High School with John. John was very quiet as least back at that time. But I was also very quiet back at that time. I think that’s what John and I had in common and some days we used walk down Lexington Road together after school neither saying very much. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep John in my prayers.

I am sorry to hear of John's death. He and I were in the same class at Holy Spirit and Trinity. Most of my memories of John are from Holy Spirit. I remember him as a very strong but kind and gentle person. Always nice to people. Always smiling. A marvel to watch carrying the ball when we played Kill The Man on the playground! Fast as lightening! 
I will remember John in my thoughts and prayers.

Joe and Mary Lou, we are sorry to hear about Johnny.  He always was very friendly with us .  I know you will miss him.  We are not able to go to funeral home or the funeral because I had a knee replacement last week .  We will keep all of the Cecils in our prayers.

Dear all family members of John, John and I grew up together in Crescent Hill and spent many hours playing baseball and football in the park at Emmet Field school and the Louisville Water Co..  In fact I think I introduced John to football when we were in the first grade. As you know he excelled in athletics. On top of that he was an example of sportsmanship. Once we graduated at Holy Spirit and later at Trinity we sort of went our separate ways. He was always kind and easily approachable.  One night I ran into him in an over 30 or 40 softball league in Middletown  John knew everyone and his prowess was well respected. Whenever I encountered John it was a pleasant experience and we always reminisced about the old days. I will always remember John and his brothers as we all grew up playing ball 🏈 the together. So sorry for his passing. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the entire family. Rest In Peace John you will be missed but not forgotten, Roy Hill 



My husband Fred knew John from working at Ky. Lumber Co. until it closed.  He had ran into John a few times.  They played softball for Ky. Lumber for a few summers and also a team named Roy's boys.  John was such a nice guy and friend, a hardworker and always did his best.  PeaceyouJohn.💖

So sorry to hear of Johnny's untimely passing.

We were classmates through grade school. Went to the same high school. Then kind of went our separate ways.

But growing up, we were neighbors. I remember when the weather was good all the kids in the neighborhood would meet on Sunday after the 7:30 Mass and play baseball by Emmet Field school. I remember wishing we could get lights to play after dark. After a hard game, we'd all truck up to the Frankfort Ave. Beer Depot for cokes, chips, etc. and talk to Jack, CH, and Jackie when she was making burgers there.  

I remember putting pennies on the railroad tracks. Getting cold water on hot days at the water company.

Winter didn't stop us. We were out playing football or basketball.  

Sledding in the snow at the Baptist Seminary and trying to dry our gloves on their radiators in the snack machine room.

And the BB wars! Playing Annie Over!

Life was good.

It's sad. I don't think kids today have the camaraderie we enjoyed growing up. Ours' was: go out in the morning and come home when the streetlights came on. No one was worried about what might happen. There was strength in numbers and we had strength.

Rest in Peace, Johnny. We won't be far behind.



I will miss John as a neighbor. He was a good and respectful person. We had a garden this year and he enjoyed the tomatoes.Since he worked hard I assumed all his life we would just leave on his gate. He was independent person but often offered his help when he thought we might need some. For all his family and friends my condolences. Michael D
