

He was born on April 22, 1942 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to James Earl and Evelyn (Henson) Neighbors. The family later settled in Jenny Lind, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carole. He is survived by his sisters Jan (James) Bridges and Nancy Brewer.
He married Maura Teresa Gregory on November 28, 2003, in the home of the bride’s parents in Canton, Illinois. The ceremony was officiated by both the bride’s brother, Reverend James Gregory and brother-in-law Reverend Edward Clay.
Jim served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and Arkansas Air National Guard. He retired from Ashland Oil Company and Southern Electric Company.
Jim read the Scriptures and led Bible studies. He also excelled in creative accomplishments. He won the Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine’s Picture Story Contest with his story titled, “Swing by the Cabin,” published in the magazine’s June 2007 edition. He worked in oils, watercolors, and pencil. He was a wood and gourd carver, basket weaver, leather crafter, flint knapper, and jewelry designer. Above all, Jim’s loved ones will remember his keen wit that brought such joy to all.
A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
