Janet Marie Nelson

Janet Marie Nelson, 79, passed away March 3, 2023 at Norton Audubon Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born March 20, 1943 in Louisville, KY. She made beautiful tall biscuits and the sweetest homemade fig jam. If you ever received a handmade card from her, chances are you still have it to this day, because they were so special. She made intricate pop-ups that danced across each piece of cardstock, chased by glitter and curlicues. She was our family’s touchstone, our center of gravity, our heart and soul. She was a fantastic wife, the best mom, and the proudest Yaya. She welcomed everyone with a warm hug and a smile. She had lots of kids that weren’t hers biologically, but she made them snacks and fussed at them as if they were.

She is survived by her husband Edward Nelson, three children: Pamela Angel (Jim), Edward Nelson (Jacinta), and Deana Nelson (Gus Hayes), and four grandchildren (Philip, Bailey, Abigail and Emma).

We will remember her in the best of times, smiling, beautiful, sipping tea, chasing grandchildren, and singing Home Free, loudly, off key, and full of pure joy. She will be cremated; A memorial service will be held from 12-4 pm on Saturday March 18 at 814 Cherokee Road, Louisville, KY 40204. Parking is limited. Please consider carpooling.
