Janet Nelson Gish

She was born July 11, 1951 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of the late John Thomas and Catherine Victoria (House) Nelson. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Tommy Nelson, Jimmy Joe Nelson, Steve Nelson and Mark Nelson.

Janet attended Sacred Heart Academy where she formed many life-long friendships. While attending Sacred Heart, she started working at Bick’s Shoe Store to help pay her way through school. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and later owned Tootsie’s Shoe Store in the old Camelot Shopping Center. Janet also worked in Accounting and Bookkeeping over the years and owned and operated Joe’s Older than Dirt along with her husband Gary, until her retirement.

She was an organizer and loved a good party. A mother to many, she always had an open door and warmly welcomed everyone.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gary Gish; two daughters, Catherine “Caytie” Gish (Jason) and Jennifer Doner (Jeremy); two grandchildren, Chawner and Adiah; four siblings, Donna Durning, Catsy Bride, Cheri Misner and Greg Nelson (Lee); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held from 3-8 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 17, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 6500 St. Bernadette Ave.
