She was the former Ola Jane Hatfield, born in Louisville, on September 29, 1941 and was a member of the Taylorsville Road Church of Christ. She was a naturally devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
"Janie" lost a 25-year struggle resulting from lung cancer and related illnesses that wreaked havoc on her body. She put up the "honorable" fight with grace and elegance, and was always there for her family even when it surpassed her physical ability.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 42 years, Charles "Chuck" Pierce; their two children, Jason Pierce and Suzanne Terry (Steve); two grandchildren, Hayden Terry and Nathan Pierce; and her loving brother Wayne Hatfield (Iris). She also leaves behind a multitude of wonderful, thoughtful, and kind friends who provided her with great comfort and love through this difficult time.
"Janie" was always the "rock" or foundation for her family. She made sure that each and every family member was celebrated in life and was loved. The Pierce family will dearly miss her kind smile, her wisdom and her presence.
Our family would like to thank several groups of caregivers who have participated in her quality of life including: the staff of Active Day, Caretenders, Hospice, Baptist Hospital East, and everyone on staff at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Each of you are loved and appreciated.
Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hosparus.
