Mr. Humphries was born in Atlanta, GA on February 24, 1924 to Phillip and Gladys Humphries. He served our country in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps as a tailgunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber, and was shot down twice during service. After service, he attended and graduated from Auburn University, the class of 1949. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
In 1949, he married his wife of 62 years, Marie Caldwell Humphries, who survives. In 1958, they moved to Louisville when Jim worked for and retired from the Arrow Shirt Company, where he was a sales representative for 37 years. He was also a longtime member of the Buechel Park Baptist Church.
Other survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Humphries-Alder (Bruce), and his grandson, Weld Robert Conley II (Devon).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Steven Roderick Humphries (Karen), who passed away in 1983.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel located at 4400 Bardstown Road. Visitation will also be on Sunday at the Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until service time at 2:00P.M. Interment will be Monday at 10:00A.M. at Resthaven Memorial Park.
