Herman was born in Polo, Bulacan in the Philippines. He earned a degree in Business Administration at University of the East. (Philippines) Herman owned and operated a hardware store in the Philippines before immigrating to the United States, in 1998 and settled in Louisville, KY. Herman had many interests which included, gardening, travelling, sports, listening to music, being a car enthusiast and watching TV. He also enjoyed walking in parks and was a bird enthusiast, specifically Parakeets. What Herman loved the most, was spending time with his wife Sally and their two sons, Mike and Jose. He was a very caring, loving and understanding father who will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Tan Sr. and Benedicta Ramirez, siblings, Nene Cayanan and Leo Tan.
Herman is survived by his wife, Sally Tan, their sons, Sgt. Jose Paolo Tan and Mike Tan, BSN, RN. Siblings, Perlita Roman, Zenaida Cruz, Jok Kong Chan, Tony Tan, Diego Tan, Boy Tan, Victoria Henson, Rosemarie Tan Topico and Gemma Tan.
