We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Henry R. Shirley on December 9, 2024, at the age of 89. Henry was born on July 6, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky to Michael Shirley Sr. and Josephine Heck. A lifelong resident of Louisville, Henry was the oldest of seven brothers and sisters and faithful steward to the Brown & Williamson Corporation for almost 40 years. Henry loved watching old John Wayne flicks and the Louisville Cardinals. He enjoyed walking Iroquois Park, fishing with his brothers and bowling. We’re fairly certain Henry is arguing with those he meets on his way to the gates of heaven, he always had a perspective he was never afraid to share.
Henry is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joann; six siblings and their children; his two children, Terry Shirley of Louisville and Judy Wall (Steve) of Mesquite, Nevada; and two grandchildren Christina Bernardo (Dominic) and Joshua Quintana (Jackie), along with one great grandchild Luca (7).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road in Louisville. A visitation will take place from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Southwest Center in honor of his son Terry.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Audubon Hospital for their compassionate care. Henry will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
