Helen Louise Bell

BELL, Helen Louise, age 91, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 5th, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Bell in 1973. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Brian and John Bell, daughters, Carol Morgan (John) and Barbara Betz; grandchildren, Jennifer Callahan (Kevin), Thomas Betz (Carrie) Alex Betz (Katy), Michael Morgan and Braden Bell; great-grandchildren: Cole Riggs, Claire and Liam Betz, Xander, Griffin, Lorelei and Hunter Betz. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Helen was born on December 10th, 1929 in St. Louis, MO. Her family’s journey led her, her mother and siblings into Germany during World War II, where she spent much of her childhood working on farms. Many years later, and once they had the opportunity, they returned to the United States where she spent most of her adult life residing in Louisville, Kentucky.

While in Louisville, she became a widow at a very young age and then began a career in housekeeping. She worked at the Courier Journal for over 17 years. While working nights at the Courier Journal, she threw the rest of her energy into raising her four children.

Helen was a generous woman who opened her doors to neighbors, friends of her children’s and later welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren into her home and life on a regular basis. She led by example. She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle.

She will always be remembered as a courageous woman, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose greatest passion was helping others.

She returned home to her heavenly Father on December 5th and we will miss her every day.

Funeral Services will be held Monday 2:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and after 11:00 am Monday until the time of the service.
