Haywood Cornelius Townsend

Born in Athens, Alabama, Haywood was the son of the late Haywood Townsend & Fannie Mae Bumphus, who survives. He was baptized at the Guiding Star Baptist Church. He was very active over the years in several community choirs, and played the organ and piano. He had a deep love for Star Trek, was a Movie Buff and loved to travel. He also had a passion for cooking. Haywood was a dedicated employee of the Carrier Vibrating Company where he was a 45-year employee.

Haywood is preceded in death by his father, Haywood Townsend; & sister, Celeste Sullivan.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Mildred Townsend; children, Deidra (Robert) McGinnis, Nicole Townsend, Stefon Townsend, Rhonda Jackson and ḊArtagnan Ramsey; 11 grandchildren, Brandon Townsend, Bryson Townsend, Christopher Townsend, Teresa Davis, Morgan Redmond, Bobbi Nicole McGinnis, Jordan Ramsey, Langston Watkins, Tondileah Townsend S’yre Ramsey; Mother, Fannie Mae Bumphus & Pops, James; siblings, Mary Helen (David) Cornelius, Daniel (Phyllis) Townsend, Michael (Sheila) Bumphus, Yolanda (Billy) Ross, Eden Bumphus & Franklin Bumphus, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – until the hour of service at 12:00 p.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
