He was born in Wilmington, DE, on July 10, 1924, to the late Ruth Crom and Harry S. Stanton, Sr. He lived all over the United States, moving 15 times with his job, constructing process facilities for DuPont. Retiring to New Bern, NC, he lived there for more than 15 years, before returning to Louisville 10 years ago. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and had a love for playing bridge and golf. He enjoyed following the stock market and was active with the Shriners for many years. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs.
He served in Countermeasures on the U.S.S. Nevada in WWII from 1943-46, and was part of battles at Normandy and Iwo Jima, among others.
He was preceded in passing by his loving wife of 64 years, Aleece Mathews Stanton; his parents, and his grandson, Jacob William Stanton.
He is survived by his children, William M. Stanton (Jacquie) of Tacoma, WA, and Chris S. Osowski (Victor) of Louisville; four grandchildren, Kyle and Avery Stanton, and Mark and Katie Osowski; and loving nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 9616 Westport Rd. A celebration of Harry’s life will take place at 4:30-6:30 PM on Wednesday in the Town Hall at the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Rd.
