Born Feb.16,1926 in Louisville, KY to the late Dr. William Watson and Dr. Rachel Breese Watson, George is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Watson; two sons, William George Watson and Gregg Peterson Watson; brother William Watson; and grandson, Kevin Luke Lare.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Julia Railey (Alan), Breese Watson (Donna), Gwen Garfall (William), Barbara Reagle (John), and Annette Lare (Kevin); 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
A graduate of Male High School and the University of Louisville, although he was a big UK fan, was a US Navy WWII Veteran serving in the Pacific 44-46, aboard the USS Antietam. George retired from General Electric working in Louisville and Columbia, MD. He went on to own Colonel’s Creek Campground in Gettysburg, PA, and later purchased a small farm in Brown County, IN. George was a member of Evangel World Prayer Center and a member of the VFW Middletown Post 1170. George was happily married to Elaine for 55 years until her passing in 2003. He loved his family and was happiest surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd, with a celebration of life service in George’s honor at 10:00 AM Monday morning at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Rd.
