Gene A Williams

Gene graduated from Central High School and joined the Louisville Police Department in 1967 where he served more than 27 years. During his tenure, he served as a motorcycle officer, and also in the Homicide, Narcotics, Youth Bureau, Criminal Investigations, and Burglary Departments. He also carried out duties in the Robbery Department as a detective and in the Fugitive Squad with the U.S. Marshals. Detective Williams was a member of the Dignitary Protection Team. He assisted with the protection of high-profile visitors to the city of Louisville, including three U.S. presidents, St. Mother Teresa, Rev. Jesse Jackson, General Norman Schwarzkopf, and Whoopi Goldberg, among others. In 1995 Gene worked three years with the federal court security before being appointed by Sheriff John Aubrey to the post of major in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. There he commanded the criminal unit and fleet management.

Gene enjoyed community service work with nearly 1000 hours of volunteer work for Baptist Hospital, several years on the Buechel Fire Department Board of Trustees, and as a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program for many years.

Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years Joyce Elizabeth Williams, his son Kenneth Williams, daughter Kelly Williams, two grandchildren, Cameron Christian Williams and Jaxson Carter Williams, and a host of relatives and friends.

A visitation for Gene will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. A visitation will occur Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Saint Stephen Church, 1018 South 15th Street, Louisville, KY 40210. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Saint Stephen Church, 1018 South 15th Street, Louisville, KY 40210. A committal service will occur Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
