He was born December 11, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late James Clayton and Shirley Ruth (Wesserling) Upton.
Gary was a member of Southeast Christian Church and an auto mechanic most of his life. He was also an ordained minister and performed numerous weddings over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Dott) Upton; son, James David Upton; daughters, Diana Shoemaker and Misty Harmon (Jeff); six grandchildren, Christopher, Kylie, Camden, Austin, Justin and Nathan; brothers, Mark and Matthew Upton; and sisters, Jan and Sally Upton.
A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 6, 2016 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Visitation will held from 4-8 PM on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of customary expressions, donations may be given to Down Syndrome of Louisville, 5001 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy. Louisville, KY 40291.
