Frederick Joseph Ridgley Jr., passed away in his home surrounded by loving family on April 13, 2024. Fred was born on December 17, 1931 in Cambridge, MA to the late Frederick Joseph, Sr. and Marguerite Eleanor (Gordon) Ridgley. He was 92 years old. Fred was the 5th child of 11 siblings.
Fred is survived by his loving and very dedicated wife Mary Rose (Yates) Ridgley. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He is survived by their 5 children; Four sons: Steven and his wife, Debbie (Hoffman) Ridgley of Louisville, KY; Mark and his wife Josephine “Jo” (DiFranco) Ridgley of Haverhill, MA; David and his wife, Antonette “Toni” (Cataldo) Ridgley, Auburn, NH; Joseph and his wife, Andrea (Avjian) Ridgley of Groveland, MA and daughter, Theresa Ridgley Morris and her husband, Timothy of Prospect, KY. He is survived by his sister Maxine Ridgley LaDouceur and her husband Joe of Barnard, VT. Fred is also survived by 16 very loving grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Fred is predeceased by 9 siblings.
Fred was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a friend to many people throughout his life. He is a U.S.A.F. Korean War Veteran and was honorably discharged.
Fred worked and retired from M/A-COM from 1962-1996 as a Project Manager for Information Technology.
After marrying the love of his life, he and Mary Rose (Yates) of Rineyville, KY, lived in North Reading, MA for over 30 years before retiring to Prospect, KY where they have spent the last 28 very happy years together. Faith and family were the most important thing in Fred’s life. He volunteered at the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years when his sons were growing up and were so proud as each one of them accomplished the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He spent his senior years volunteering at St. Albert the Great Church and St. Vincent de Paul and soup kitchens. He and Mary Rose enjoyed visiting family and friends in MA and touring the US, and many other countries, but his favorite place to tour was Hawaii. His past times included playing cards and Rummikub, visiting with family and friends, and listening to music from the 40s and 50s. He also loved to sit on his back porch and enjoy the nice weather and nature while listening to his favorite music while occasionally dancing with his sweet Mary Rose and enjoying a cocktail. Fred loved watching his favorite Boston Sports Teams as well as the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball. He will be remembered for his warm smile and will be missed by many.
A visitation for Fred will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40222. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 1395 Girard Dr., Louisville, KY 40222.
