Frances “Nanny” Polsgrove, 101, born in Louisville, KY on June 20, 1920 peacefully passed from this life to her forever life to be united with the Lord and reunited with her husband, Harry on July 13, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
She was a strong, independent woman who loved God, her husband, children, and family dearly. She was blessed with an awesome husband for 59 years and raised two beautiful daughters not to mention assisting with taking care of her grandchildren.
After caring for her husband as he lost his battle with Alzheimer’s, she lived the rest of her life bravely with determination to continue on her own. She with stood many challenges in her later years but astonished not only her family with her own strength and tenacity but also her health care professionals. She not only survived, open heart surgery at 88 years old, and total knee replacement at 91 years and continued to live in her home on her own until the last couple years of her life.
She has been showcased on the news and even appeared on America’s Funniest Home Videos. She bowled and drove up into her 90’s. She mustered enough courage to get on a plane for the first time in her 80’s, just to visit one of her grandchildren. She had a fighting spirit, had her body been able to withstand more, would have carried her even farther into the hundreds.
She is preceded by her parents, Green Berry and Lucy Slusher; her brother, Hubert Slusher; and the love of her life, Harry Polsgrove. Left to cherish her memory and thank God for her life are her cherished daughters, Judy Polsgrove Starkey (Doyle), Carole Polsgrove Mays (Jerry); her most loved grandchildren, Andrea Penick (David), Todd Starkey (Jill), Kevin Mays (Tiffany), Robin Jones (Jeremy); 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great, great grandchildren.
She was never fond of her first name Hazel, but it didn’t matter because anyone that met her she loved, treated like family, and they called her “Nanny”.
Services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021 at noon in the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady and Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. with interment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on Friday. Memorial gifts may be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
