

Florencio, “Flor,” passed away on December 30, 2023 with family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo C. Dizon and Leonor M. Dizon and brothers, Romeo M. Dizon, Gaudencio M. Dizon, and Juan “Johnny” M. Dizon, and his beloved wife, Betty M. Dizon.
Flor graduated with an Associate in Arts – 1958 and Doctor of Medicine – 1963 at the University of Santo Thomas (Philippines).
In 1964, Flor completed his rotating internship and General Practice residency at St. Michael Hospital, Milwaukee, WI followed by a 1st year Pediatric residency at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY. He served as Assistant Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics while there. In 1967, he completed his 2nd year Pediatric residency at the then Detroit General in Detroit, MI. He then served as Assistant Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics at Detroit General which was affiliated with Wayne State University School of Medicine. Due to a visa sponsorship issue, he returned home to the Philippines in 1968 to practice general medicine for a few years. While there, he was introduced through a mutual friend of his father the love of his life, Betty Q. Magno. They married in January 1973 and soon after that had two children, Brian and Gemmalyn. A chance opportunity arose in which Flor and his family returned to the United States to start his long career in Family Medicine beginning in Wisconsin and then concluding in southern Indiana.
In 1979, he worked alongside Dr. Joe H. Carr at the Henryville clinic in Henryville, IN as well as with the Emergency Room Staff at the then Clark County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) in Jeffersonville, IN. In August 1980, he then joined at that time, North Clark Community Hospital (NCCH) in Charlestown, IN as a staff member in the emergency department. While there, he also assisted in general surgeries and continued to see patients at Clark Memorial Hospital (CMH). He remained working for NCCH over 15 years. The hospital was renamed Medical Center of Southern Indiana (MCSI) in the 90’s.
Of note, Flor served on the board of trustees at MCSI from 1989 to 2000 and more importantly, served proudly as the Chief of Staff from 1987 to 1989.
During the years 1989 to 2002, Flor entered private practice at North Clark Professional Arts Building in Charlestown, IN. In 2003 to 2007, Flor did locum tenens where he ended in his professional goals in Family Practice at Pekin Family Health Center in Pekin, IN. He retired in late 2007.
Flor was a member of the Indiana-Kentucky Philippine Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA), Clark County Medical Society, and American College of International Physicians.
Flor loved to karaoke sing with family friends and enjoyed going to riverboat casinos on many occasions.
Flor is survived by his sister, Nora D. Tugade (Tommy Tugade) and nephews, Edward Tugade (Catherine Tugade) and Richard Tugade; his brother, Marcelino M. Dizon; his devoted son Brian M. Dizon (Gracita T. Dizon) and his beloved grandchildren Elizabeth and Marius; his cherished daughter Gemmalyn M. Dizon.
A visitation for Florencio will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40222. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 11501 Maple Way., Louisville, KY 40229.
