She is preceded in death by her parents Ethel and John Hammond, and her siblings, Waldien, Lucille, and Obie J.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert E. Watson, 4 children: Ken (Anne), Janice, Doug (Tammy), and Kim (David), 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Eva was born in a farmhouse in Franklin County, Ky. on July 4, 1928, the youngest of four children. She was raised there on the family’s farm where they made their living. She recalled living without electricity or running water and having various farming chores.
She was thankful for being raised in a Christian home where her Papa would pray and read the Bible at night and her Mama would sing while working. Eva told stories of herself singing songs while churning cream into butter. She was 4 years old when she sang her first song in church and continued to love doing so for the rest of her life.
Eva met Robert when his father George Watson was a minister at Grafenburg Christian Church where her family attended. After a short courtship, they were married in 1951 and had their four children over the span of twenty years.
Eva served alongside her husband Robert in ministry at various churches over the years. They include Knob Creek Union Church in Bullitt County, Kentucky, West Point Christian Church, Alpha Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana, Keystone Heights Christian Church in Florida, Union Grove Christian Church in Bedford, Kentucky, Medora Christian Church in Valley Station, Kentucky, and Union Chapel Christian Church in Laconia, Indiana. Bob and Eva are current members of Hikes Point Christian Church.
Eva was a dedicated servant of the Lord. She always put family and others before herself. She liked working in the yard, doing crafts, quilting, working puzzles, taking family photos, and had a love for cardinals and butterflies. She became even more humorous in her later years and her smile was ever-present. She was a strong woman who found comfort in her faith.
The family is thankful that she is now able to rest with the Lord and all her loved ones who have gone before. We would like to extend special thanks to caregivers Alberta Hanserd and Billie McDill, who have become a part of our family. Because of their excellent care, she was able to continue to live with Bob in their home, according to their wishes. We are also grateful to Hosparus Health for helping her be comfortable in her last months of life. We appreciate the support and visits of many members of the Hikes Point Christian Church. We are honored that Eva's nephews Obie and Odis Clark will be leading the service. We would like to invite you to celebrate Eva’s life with us.
