He was born November 28, 1922 in Harlan, Kentucky, the son of Joseph Wynne and Bertha Whitehead Nolan. He was a United States Air Force veteran and a graduate of Centre College and University of Louisville Medical School. He was an ophthalmologist, having been in practice 35 years.
Edwin was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and also the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He had many hobbies, including golf, magic, calligraphy, and doting on his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Helen Nolan; three children, Susan Lamar, Dr. Joseph Nolan and Martha McKenzie; four grandchildren, Kate Lamar, Martha Lamar, Christine Nolan and Helen McKenzie; and one sister, Charlotte Nolan. Special thanks to his niece, Laurie Logan for her love and assistance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dr. Robert Nolan and one sister, Mary Esther MacLean.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 in the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
