He was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Louisville, KY. Ed graduated DuPont Manual High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Louisville.
Col. Hornung served in the KY Air National Guard, Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He earned many honors during his service, including the Legion of Merit (twice), Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and many service awards. Retired as a Colonel with more than 42 years of service.
Ed served on the Board of Directors for the KyANG Retiree Group, Inc., a non-profit corporation to enhance the image of the Air National Guard and Air Force, in the community, and preserve the heritage of the KyANG for future generations.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and wife of 49 years, Geri Hornung, and half brothers, Frank and Ernest Hornung, and companion Jacquelyn Reid.
Col Hornung survived by his son, Edwin Hornung, Jr., and his brothers John Hornung and James (Sophia) Hornung.
Visitation will occur on Monday February 26, 2024 from 11-2PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218. A celebration of Ed's life and military honors will follow visitation, beginning at 2PM in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
