Edwin W. Compton, Sr., 89, a devoted family man and a distinguished Navy veteran, embarked on his final journey on August 21, 2023. Born in the small town of Big Springs, KY, on February 1, 1934, Edwin led a life rich in service, commitment, and love. One of his greatest of loves being his adoring wife Patricia Ann Compton.
Edwin proudly served his country as a Navy veteran during the Korean War, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his nation. After his honorable service, he found his calling as a construction worker, where his craftsmanship and expertise left an indelible mark.
A dedicated member of the community, Edwin was a 32nd degree Master Mason of Shively Lodge 951, an Eastern Star, and a proud member of the Kosair Shriners and the Scottish Rite. His commitment to these organizations showcased his passion for fellowship and the bonds he formed with those who shared his values.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Edwin was a man of simple pleasures. He possessed a green thumb that transformed his garden into a vibrant sanctuary of blooming beauty. His love for fishing and the great outdoors spoke to his appreciation for the tranquility found in nature's embrace.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Lillian Compton, his daughter Patience Compton, his brother James Compton, and his sisters Doris Johnson and Laverne Boteler. He leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his daughters Vicki DuVall (James) and Regina Compton, sons Edwin Compton, Jr. (Mary) and Jason Compton, eight cherished grandchildren, sister Robin Dingus (Bob), and brothers Gene Compton (Ronnie) and Mike Compton (Diana).
A visitation to celebrate Edwin's life will be held on Friday, August 25th, 2023, from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road. A heartfelt service to honor his memory will take place at 2 PM at the funeral home, followed by entombment at Resthaven Memorial Park.
