Doris Marie Gray Lowen age 89, passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, December 7, 2018. She was born October 13, 1929 in Louisville to Robert and Edith Gray. Along with her two siblings, she grew up on Story Avenue, relocating to Crescent Hill following the Great Flood of ‘37. After graduating from Atherton High School’s 1947 class, she attended the University of Louisville. She married her high school sweetheart, Roger Lowen, in 1950. Until she retired in 1990 to help care for two of her grandchildren, she was a Dental Assistant in St. Matthews. Doris was a master of crafting the finest Christmas cookies her family ever tasted, and her award-winning needlepoint skill decorates the homes of her family members to this day. She and her beloved Roger visited every contiguous US State, most of them by driving in their faithful Chevrolet Suburban with a camper trailer. She was an active and respected member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Fern Creek Women’s Club, where she held esteemed offices. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and her brother, Robert Gray Jr. Left to honor Doris and remember her love are her brother, Louis Gray (Carol); her two children, Robin Hodge (Kevin), Russell Lowen (Cindy); her 5 grandchildren, Edward Hodge, Bradley Lowen, Brandon Lowen, Brett Lowen, and Natalie Lowen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Arch L Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 9:30AM – 11:30AM, followed by funeral services at noon at the same location. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Westport Place for their attentiveness and loving care. Memorials may be made in Doris’s name to St. John Lutheran Church Giving Tree.
