Donald Copple Proffitt

Donald Copple Proffitt, 92, of Louisville passed away on November 23, 2022. He was born on March 6, 1930 to the late Raymond and Glennie Proffitt. He was preceded in death by his oldest son Donald C. Proffitt Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years Susan Proffitt, children; Damon Proffitt, Wendy Proffitt Schneider (Erik), and Fielding Proffitt (Jennifer), grandchildren; Ashley, Alisha, Sierra, Donald, and Chase, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.

Donald was born and raised in Louisville and was a graduate of Dupont Manual High School in 1947. From there he was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 and served honorably in Korea for 32 months. After his service he received his degree from the University of Louisville in 1959 where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Donald soon began his career in banking and served as VP of South East Federal for 30 years. Over the years Donald was a Zachary Taylor post member as well as The American Legion.

Donald was incredibly talented with his hands. His woodworking and painting showed his impressive artistry. He was known to have and extreme attention to detail and this showed throughout the house and yard with nothing out of place, not even a leaf on the grass. He was a long time member of the Corvette Club owning many different models and sharing in this affection for the vehicles with Susan. Donald was so proud to be a Navy Veteran and well as an enthusiastic UofL fan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Donald’s name to Hosparus Health of Louisville or The Kentucky Humane Society.

A funeral service for Donald will be held on Tuesday December 6, 2022 at 12:30pm in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son Westport Village 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville, KY 40222 with visitation prior from 10am-1230pm. Burial will follow and Kentucky Veterans Cemetery.
