He was born on March 18th 1955 in Louisville, Kentucky to Joseph and Evelyn Allen. After graduating from Iroquois High School he went on to study Accountancy at Watterson Business College. Don worked for Liberty National Bank for 21 years in their operations and IT department. He later went on to work at UPS and received a 20 years of service award. He was an amazing father, brother and grandfather.
Don played the saxophone and accordion in his high school band and developed an early love of music. As an adult he soaked up all the musical acts he could, spending his free time with family and friends at concerts, festivals and signings.
He doted on his four grandchildren and enjoyed showing their photos to anyone who would indulge him. He was always ready to help a friend or family member in need, once driving hours out of his way to help his son who experienced car trouble on a long road trip.
If you met Don - you remembered him. His uniquely extraverted nature, charisma and passion for music and entertainment made sure of it. He lived his life with exuberance, had a way with people, and was quick to befriend people. He didn’t just make friends though - he created lifelong friendships. He had a heart of gold and was treasured by all.
Don Allen is preceded in death by his mother Evelyn, his father Joseph, sister Josephine and brother Joseph. He is survived by his brother Paul, sister Patricia, half-sister Dorris, son Michael, daughter Meghan and grandchildren Abbigail, Hayden, William and Jacob.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel at Evergreen Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 16th 2021 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Hosparus Health or the American Cancer Society.
