David Anthony Turner, Jr. age 9 of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2021. He was a proud fourth grade Tully Tiger, he was a part of the Fellowship Christian Athletes (FCA) and Art Club. David was an artist and wanted to do that when he grew up. David enjoyed sports and played soccer, wee ball, football, basketball, tennis and Jujitsu. He achieved the Cub Scout Rank of Webelos.
On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, David’s Adventure began. He received a diagnosis of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). This incurable tumor is located in the middle of the brain stem, which serves a critical role in regulating certain involuntary actions of the body, including heartbeat and breathing. The median survival from diagnosis ranges from six months to a year, David surpassed this statistic by over three years. He kept a positive mindset through his adventure and made every day the best day ever! Even though DIPG affected his mobility it did not define him. David continued to live his best life and wanted to be a positive role model.
David became a childhood cancer advocate, he and his family traveled many places to bring more awareness of pediatric cancer. Throughout his adventure with DIPG, he visited all 50 states, 18 National Parks, and several different countries, bringing awareness but also sharing his positive mindset and passion to make every day the best day ever. He enjoyed riding roller coasters and visiting beaches to play in the sand and collect seashells. Some of his favorite adventures include: LegoLand, Disney, Universal Studios, and a cruise. These were some of the adventures that brought a smile to his face and happiness in his heart.
David leaves behind to carry on his memory, his parents Elizabeth and David Turner, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, many family members and friends.
Family requests that guests who attend services wear masks.
Visitation will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, May 28, 2021. A service to celebrate David’s Life will begin Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 am at the church. David will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.
In lieu of flowers and other gifts, donations can be made in David’s Honor to his parents. David A. Turner, Jr., to go toward his legacy to fund DIPG research and support adventures for other children facing a similar diagnosis.
