David was an amazing family member, mentor, scholar, colleague, professor, and friend. David touched the lives of so many hearts. Here to carry on David's memory, is his adoring wife, Nicole Boice Patterson; treasured children, Ambra Patterson (and sons), Conall Patterson, and Aidan Patterson; mother Betty Amburgey; brothers, Michael Patterson (Kathy) and Coleman "Boe" Patterson (Phyllis).
David received a Bachelor’s in Social Work, from Spalding University in 1996, Masters in Social Work from University of Louisville in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Louisville in 2006. David was a Professor and Researcher at SUNY University at Buffalo and has been with Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri since 2012.
David’s research and advocacy for addiction treatment and rehabilitation is nationally recognized and incredibly impactful in the field of social work. His latest book “The New Addiction Treatment” is set to publish this summer. Throughout David’s career, he focused on student success and wellness as an advocate for American Indian/Alaskan Native and other under-represented minorities.
To honor his legacy at the WASH University Brown School, David’s colleagues endowed a scholarship in his name, the David Patterson Silver Wolf Scholarship, to continue his support of Master’s and Ph.D. students.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville KY 40218. A service to honor the life of David will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
