David E. Leathers, Jr., 58, of Louisville, passed away on July 26, 2012 after having surgery, surrounded by his family. He was a lineman for Louisville Gas and Electric and a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. He was a life long mechanic, an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and the "greatest Grandpa" in the world to the light of his life, his granddaughter Gwendalynne. Those who knew him well, knew him to have a goofy sense of humor.
In addition to his mother, Doris Rains Leathers he was preceded in death by his sweetheart of 31 years, Renee M. Thompson Leathers in 2011.
Cherishing his memory are his children, Brittany (Alan) Heffley and John David Leathers; granddaughter, Gwendalynne Hoback and his father, David E. Leathers Sr.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations be made to St. Gabriel School for Education Fund for Gwendalynne Hoback.
