She was born in Louisville and her parents were John and Mary Ann Hourigan. She was a graduate of Aherns High School and later married M. Lee “Bud” Fowler.
Darlene was very active in her children’s education, volunteered with the Girl Scouts, PTA and helped with school field trips. Darlene was an office manager for Anesthesiologist Associates Group, a homemaker and a member of Moose Lodge #5. She was an avid crafter and especially loved cross-stitch. She also enjoyed fashion and interior design.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 58 years, M. Lee “Bud” Fowler; daughters, Debra (Don) Strotman, Cheryl Oppel and Theresa (Gary) Carlton;
granddaughters, Jessica Rowan, Stephanie McGaughey, Lindsay Strotman, and Katie Strotman; grandson, Dylan Carlton; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Mason, Lane and two on the way; siblings, Johnny (Beth) Hourigan and Bertha Humphrey.
Visitation: Sunday from 1-7 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road.
A Celebration of Darlene’s Life will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.
