Daniel R. Sneed, a man of great character and integrity, passed from the grasp of his loved ones into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2011. He was 65, born October 21, 1945, in Ventura, California to his adoring parents, Raymond and Agnes Sneed. During the Vietnam War, Dan was called to serve his country as a Medical Specialist in the 2d Battalion, 138th Field Artillery of the Army National Guard, for which he was given the Army Commendation and National Defense Service Medals as well as medals for Vietnam Service and Campaign,
and Good Conduct, gaining also an M16 Expert Badge. After his return to the U.S., Dan championed his fellow soldiers by becoming a Life Member of the American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked with daily vigor and joy at the family vocation, Kentucky Upholstering, sprouting from that his own shop, American Upholstering. He held a passion for his craft. He also loved pacing, smoking, coffee, and haircuts. He was the kind of guy who would let you drive his new car, who displayed an unbounded generosity when there was no other. He loved to make people smile and with a strong sense of purpose offered everyone respect for their
inner humanity. He was a helper, seldom a taker, always a friend.
Dan is survived by his loving mother, Agnes Sneed of Louisville; sisters, Linda Arnold of New Haven and Donna McGee of Louisville, and brother, David Sneed, of Louisville. Grieving nieces and nephews include Raya Brady of Olympia, WA, Jamie and Eric Foote, both of Louisville, Starla Cary of New Haven, and Pamela Fourroux of Indianapolis. Also in remembrance are many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and his gentle son, Brad Sneed of Louisville, about whom he talked incessantly and with the highest pride. He is predeceased by his father, Raymond Sneed, and sister, Barbara Sneed, both of Louisville.
His Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at noon at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park - Soldier's Circle. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. till service time at the funeral home.
The family extends a warm 'thank you' to the care-providers who so kindly kept to their mission, and to the Veteran's Administration for its quality of care
and concern.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Vets (www.dav.org), a cause about which Dan cared deeply.
