After 87 years of life, Chuck Leach passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, surrounded by family. He is preceded by his best friend and wife of 40 years, Fay Woody Leach and siblings Hattie Welch, Elmer Leach, and Milton Leach Jr. He is survived by sister Dorothy Salser, and his three children Dawn E. Leach, Kimberly D. Leach and John Seth Leach.
He was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church for many years. He was born in 1934 in Pampa, Texas, and grew up in Beeville and Corpus Christi, Texas, and Albuquerque New Mexico. He graduated from Baylor University. He attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville where he met his wife and earned a Masters of divinity. He was a navigator in Strategic Air Command for the US Air Force, a computer programmer for L&N railroad, a minister of music, a pastoral counselor, and a Fairness Campaign supporter. He found joy in participating in Writers Support Group as well as ACOP (Adult Children of Parents).
With incredible courage, at 80 years old, Chuck accepted that he is gay. He spent the rest of his life as a proud gay man.
Chuck loved so very many people and taught people that love --especially love of self--is the most important thing. His family sends love to all who loved him.
Services to celebrate Chuck's life will be held at 12pm on Saturday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle, 2428 Frankfort Ave. with burial to follow at Cave Hill.
Visitation will be prior to service at 11:00 am on Saturday. The family kindly requests masks be worn at the services.
Family would love for those wishing to honor Chuck to donate resources or time to the Trevor Project, the Fairness Campaign, or Tina Ward-Pugh for County Clerk, all doing work he was passionate about.
