Charles proudly served his country as an Engineer in the Marines First Division during World War II, heroically assisting with the invasion and securing of the islands of Guadalcanal and Okinawa. Charles was also a retired machinist with Henry Vogt Machine Company, a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, a member of Young at Hearts and lifetime member of the VFW.
His loving wife Ramah and grandson, Troy Gilbert precede Charles in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jack Lawrence (Kris), Charlene Beck (Billy Bowman), and Cindy Skaggs (Keith); grandchildren, Josh Jones (Stephanie), Todd Lawrence, Andee Spalding, Dana Kirk (Todd); great grandchildren, Charlie Jones, P.J. Spalding, L.G. Wedding, Tiffany Ringold(Bobby), great great grandchildren, Scarlet , Remy, McKayla.
A funeral service to honor Charles life will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00am in in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Sons Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Hwy. Louisville, Kentucky 40219, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-7pm at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Crusade for Children.
