Born July 22, 1945 in Benham, Ky. He peacefully passed away on June 22, 2024 from multiple complications associated with Lynch Syndrome at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
He is proceeded in death by his parents John R. Garrett and Katherine Mills Amrhein, his son Charles (Chuckie) Ray Garrett II and sister Linda Sue Cowles.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Lyvon Ray Garrett, two daughters and sons-in-law Tammi Lynn and Brett Baker and Cynthia Kay and Gerald Anthony Jr., his brother and sister-in-law Clifford L and Sally Garrett, a nephew he raised as his own Clarence M. Cowles (Tara), three nieces Cheryl (James), Angela (Jimmy) and Julia. Three grandchildren Crystal, Briana and Tyler and seven great-grandchildren Xander, Alexis, Olivia, Ethan, Jesse Eric, Bryson and Jaxson, and two step sons Donald and Shane Woods.
Charles served in the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and P.O.W. He was retired from Ford Motor Co. (L.A.P.). In his spare time he loved working on, rebuilding and restoring old classic cars and street rods. He passed his knowledge and love of automobiles down to his three children, nephew and grandson. He also had a love for motorcycles, black powder guns, gardening and animals. He was an avid jokester and made any situation lighter through comedy even in his final hours.
He was a believer and follower of Christ and an ordained minister that went out and ministered to the homeless.
A visitation for Charles will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will occur Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
