Catherine attended George Washington School, and graduated from Atherton.
She was a charter member and the oldest living member of Grace Immanuel United Church of Christ. She often said that her work with the Sunday School and the youth of the church were some of her fondest memories. During her stay at Mt. Holly, she looked forward to receiving communion with her friends.
Catherine worked over 70 years with over 20 years at Joe Ruhl’s Grocery, Tommy Lute’s Grocery, and then from 1959 to 2000 at Hadley Pottery. She had many friends from Hadley’s including customers and employees who knew her as “Miss Catherine”.
She also took in roomers, and two were life long friends, Hugo Kottke (who stayed 27 years), and Carol Schweisguth Buddo (who stayed 17 yrs.). After her Aunt Nettie died, her son Fred Tumbrink came to live, and stayed over 35 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, aunt Nettie Tumbrink, and her cousin and caregiver, Fred Tumbrink.
She is survived by her faithful care-givers and friends; Laura and George Lun, Phyllis Caudill, Patty Downs, Paul Clark, Marie Ovington, Bill and Linda Ottman,
Carol Buddo, Carol Gray, Bea Van Winkle, Lou Steinberg, Rev. Greg Bain, and Charles Lutes, and many others..
A service to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave. with interment at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday.
