Carmelita “Carla” Martin Williams was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. At home, with her loving husband and children by her side, her heavenly father called her home March 24, 2021 at age 79.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Nelson H. and Edna Martin. Carmelita was born on August 15, 1941 in Anderson, Indiana. The family moved to Louisville, Kentucky shortly after her birth. At age 15, her brother, Anthony Martin was born. After graduating in 1959 from Butler High School in Louisville, KY Carmelita began her career working at Tube Turns as a secretary. While hanging out with friends she met her husband, Charles Henry Williams. Until Carmelita was called home, they were married 59 years and 358 days. Together, they had 4 children: Charles Christopher “Chris” Williams, Laura Diane Williams, Lea Ann Nunn (husband Carl), and Jeffrey Craig Williams. She has 3 grandchildren: Carl Lee Nunn III “Cory” (wife Sierra), Tyler Jeffrey Nunn (wife Cera), and Michaela Elizabeth Williams (daughter of Craig) and 3 great grandchildren: Easton Lee, Kinley Rose Nunn & another one of the way (son & daughter of Cory) and River Jade Nunn (daughter of Tyler).
In 1975 Carmelita began working as a school bus driver for Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, KY. and retired in 1995. During her 20-year career as a bus driver she safely transported hundreds of thousands of children to and from school, including her own children and grandchildren.
Carmelita loved cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends, especially with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Together with her daughters, she traveled often to the beach and took cruises.
Visitation is scheduled Monday, March 29, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and funeral service at 6:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY 40213.
