Hartstern, Carl Jacob,Hartstern, Carl Jacob, born in Louisville, KY September 19th, 1915, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of March 18th. Passed away peacefully in his home on March 17th. Preceded in death by parents, Jacob and Florence, brother Robert and sisters Florence & Dorothy. Survived by his loving wife, Chrystine (Bass), of 69 years, son Stephen (Sue-Sue), granddaughters Meredith and Lauren and great granddaughter Madison, 2 nephews Robert & David, 2 nieces Dottie and Jean and niece and loving caregiver Carol Bass, for the past 10 years. Graduated from Manual HS in '33. Served in WWII as a runner in the 3rd Army Division where he received both bronze star and purple heart. Carl has been an active member of Kentucky Chapter # 146 of the Military Order Purple Heart., where a scholarship fund has been named in his honor. Proceeds from his book WWII Memoirs: Of a Dogface Soldier, published at the age of 96, all go to support this fund. Retired from American Standard after forty seven years of faithful service. He was active in the Okolona community as a founding member and treasurer of the Sewer commission, A member of the optimist club, and life long member of Cooper Memorial Methodist Church, where he served as a delegate to the Methodist Convention. Active member of the MOPH and DAV.His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Okolona. Burial Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation Monday 3-8 PM at the funeral home and after 12:00 PM until service time on Tuesday. a wake to follow at Wildwood Country Club.
