Bonnie was born September 2, 1957 in Elmhurst, Ill., and moved to Louisville with her family in 1968. Bonnie was one of those rare people we call caregivers, earning nursing degrees from Morehead State and Spalding Universities. She spent her entire career nursing and caring for others, including hospital care, organ transplant coordination, and later in her career, helping injured workers get the treatment they needed to return to work. She continued her selfless giving after death by donating her organs so that others may enjoy fuller lives.
Bonnie found her biggest joys in life in her family. She was never happier than when spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, hosting a house full of people at Derby and enjoying large family gatherings during the holidays. She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, particularly UK basketball and golf, was an avid home chef, and loved to travel and vacation across the country.
Her parents, Henry M. Edwards III, and Sally H. Edwards predeceased Bonnie. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 37 years, Kerry A. McGee, children Michael E. McGee (Krista), Kevin A. McGee (Lindsey), grandchildren Ryan Henry, Patrick Alan and Elizabeth Jane McGee, sisters Virginia (Ginny) Edwards (Richard Colvin) and Judy Edwards Jones (Casey), and an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bonnie’s family would like to extend thanks for her medical care to the dedicated staffs of Norton Brownsboro, Norton Women’s and Children’s, and Jewish Hospitals.
The Celebration of Life for Bonnie McGee will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 from 1pm to 5pm at the Peterson-Dumesnil House, 301 S. Peterson, Louisville KY.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in her memory to Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) so that organization can continue its mission of outreach and education in the cause of organ donation and transplantation.
