Bettye was born in Cloverport, KY, to Daphne and Ralph Berry and graduated Louisville Girls High School in 1945. Bettye entered St. Joseph School of Nursing at the age of 17 and worked hard as a nurse for 45 years, including many years in the ER.
In September 1947, Bettye married the love of her life, “Len” Leonard Smith Cambron, and had two beloved children, Sherry and George. Along with her nursing, she supported the family business alongside Len - they ran an automotive and horse trailer dealership and were actively involved in the Quarter Horse Business. Bettye was also an active leader for the Girl Scouts.
Bettye was proceeded in death by her parents, Daphne and Ralph Berry; brothers Charles and Ralph (Buddy) O. Berry; and her children, George and Sherry Cambron. She is survived by her loving sister Gwen Mattingly (Bill); granddaughter Jackie Cambron; grandson George “Lenny” Cambron (Susan); great grandchildren Dayton Gaddis, Gianna Cambron and Lennox Cambron; daughter-in-law Vivian Cambron; Susan Spannbauer, and many beloved nieces and nephews including Kitty Atkinson, Doris Mayes, Renee Branum, Mike Berry, Chuck Berry (Cathy) and Lori Berry Jackson.
Bettye was loved and adored by many more friends and family members. She will be missed dearly but will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
Private services will be held by Bettye’s request. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to either the Humane Society, Hosparus or a children’s welfare organization of your choice.
