Bessie Harvine Pfeffer

Bessie Harvine (Hammond) Pfeffer, 101, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017. She was born September 1, 1916 in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She was a homemaker, member of the Melbourne Heights Homemakers, Cub Scout Den Mother, altered clothes for Showers Men & Boys Shop, seamstress, crafter, avid gardener, and consummate hostess. She also worked for Jeff Boat during WWII. As a longtime member of Bethel St. Paul Church, she was a member of the Fellowship Class, quilters group, preparer of the famous German potato salad for the annual Turtle Soup Festival, and lead the weekly exercise class for seniors. She loved to entertain family and friends, travel, and especially loved being Great Grandma or Gra-Gra to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Maurice R. Pfeffer, her parents Belle Florence Fairfax and John Harvey Hammond, sisters Jeannette Hammond, Nell Medinger, Daisy Carter, Pearl Weber, Margaret Young; and brother Billy Hammond.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons Ronald Pfeffer (Linda) and Richard Pfeffer (Marnita); grandchildren Ron Pfeffer (Helen), Kirsti Baker (Ryan) and Laura Anderson (Nick); great grandchildren Olivia and Amelia Baker, Blakely and Hadley Anderson.

The family would like to express our appreciation to all of her caregivers and the staffs of Forest Springs Health Campus, Hosparus Health and ElderCare4Families for their exceptional and compassionate care.

Visitation for Bessie will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 3:00-8:00pm at Arch L. Heady at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 1:00pm at Bethel St. Paul Church, 4004 Shelbyville Rd., with interment to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, 11601 Ballardsville Rd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and memorial gifts be made to the Bethel St. Paul Church Memorial Fund or Hosparus Health.
