Barbara Ann (Judy) Russell

Judy grew up in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky with seven older siblings and was known for her vivacious and joyful approach to life. She enjoyed dancing the sock hop and the stroll to all the latest tunes, like Peggy Sue, listening to her record player, skating, and hanging out in her room with her pink furniture.

One fateful day in Bloomfield, she met the love of her life, Tommy Russell, when he asked her to go for a ride in his ’62 Chevy. She agreed and their love story began. They were married on June 22, 1963, and built a life together for 59 years. They settled in Louisville, Kentucky where Tommy worked at GE and they raised two sons and a daughter. Through the years, she never lost her sense of humor or the ability to bring joy to people. She was an avid reader and a book, or her kindle were never far from her reach. Agatha Christie was one of her most favorite authors. She was deeply faithful, and the couple were long-time members of Fern Creek Christian Church and later became members of Anchor Christian Church in Florida. One of her greatest pleasures in life was being a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. All her family knew that her wonderful cooking was one of her ways to share her love and you would never leave her house hungry. She was truly a selfless woman and her family meant everything to her.

Judy and Tommy loved to travel, took many cruises together, visited Hawaii, New York, and even took a 21-day trip to California. They frequently spent time in Florida, eventually retiring there for 18 years before recently moving back home to Kentucky.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Marvin and Charlie Brown, and sister Maggie B. Wells.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, her children – Chris (Shelley) Russell, Bradley (Grace) Russell and Leigh Anne (Eddie) Morehead, her grandchildren – Jessica (John), Scott (Ashley), Rebecca (Nick), Chelsea, Kara, Sarah (Danny), Thomas, John, Hannah, and Savannah, eight great grandchildren and a great grandson due in May, brother Forest (Betty Lee) Brown, sisters Marie Hyatt, Beulah Baxter, and Shelby Leathers, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218).

Visitation will be from 4 PM until 8 PM on Monday, November 7, 2022 and again from 9AM until service time of 11 AM on Tuesday.

Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden in Mount Washington, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Cancer Society or plant a tree through A Living Tribute.
