She is survived by her parents, Joseph Alston Jones, and Ellen Hinterkopf Jones; her children, son Christopher James Hammond and daughter Catherine (Katie) Elizabeth Mei Li Hammond; her younger brother, sister-in-law, and niece, Brian Alan Jones, Hatsumi Jones, and Aiko Kelly Jones; and her former spouse, Matthew James Hammond.
She was born on September 17, 1969 in Tampa, Florida before being raised in Atlanta, Georgia. An inquisitive young woman, she always enjoyed digging into the deeper meanings behind life’s questions. She also enjoyed talking to people, a passion that would lead her to pursue psychology. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1991, and the University of Louisville in 1999, both with flying colors.
In addition to her career, she grew up with a passion for dogs that extended much beyond her childhood. She actively fostered more than a dozen dogs over the course of multiple years through the Louisville Weimaraner Rescue, making sure they had a safe and secure place to stay until they found their forever home.
She had an immense amount of creativity, which manifested itself into making hand-made cards for her family and friends. She combined this with her faith, and used her creativity to send notes to fellow Christ Church United Methodist members in need of support for multiple years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, she always made sure to send extra love to members who were affected by the illness in one way or another.
Throughout her life she devoted herself to serving the people around her. She valued the importance of family and was a friend to all. Her infectious personality drew in everyone who interacted with her; she always knew how to cheer someone up. She always thought of others and never knew a stranger. She will be missed dearly.
