Marjorie "Marge" Mae Holland

Marjorie (Oliver) Holland loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, 83, of Avila Beach, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2015. Marjorie was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 19, 1931 to Ben W. Oliver and Olive Askin Oliver. She spent her early years in Kentucky, which she always considered her home. When Marjorie was 6 years old, she and her parents were traveling to Los Angeles so that her father could start a new job. During the trip her mother passed away after a sudden illness. She and her father continued their journey west, where they established a new home in Los Angeles. She attended Ramona Convent and Arcadia/Monrovia/Duarte High School where she was crowned their first homecoming queen. In 1949 Marjorie met the love of her life, Jerry Holland. They married in 1950 and settled in Temple City, CA. In 1978 they moved, along with their children and grandchildren, to Los Osos. They called Los Osos home until 2002, when they relocated to Avila Beach. Many remember Marge from the Los Osos Security Pacific Bank and Bank of America. She ended her career working at Cal Poly, retiring in 2009. Marge’s greatest joy was her family. She took pride in having weekly Sunday dinners for 35 years, which included her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved immeasurably and will be missed more than we can express. Marjorie is survived by her children, Brad Holland (Janet), and Susan Rains (Ed); grandchildren, Eric Holland, Amanda Valente (Ryan), Kerri Cuellar (Louie), Amy Abbott (Jason), Erin Abbott, and Ashley Harrison (Tom); great-grandchildren, Nolan, Chloe, Joaquin and Hudson; her brother John Oliver (Jane), and her sister Linda Hummel (Phil), as well as three step-grandchildren, Clair Butts, Keith Rains and Kyle Rains. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jerry, her brother Charles Oliver, son in-law Michael Abbott, parents Ben and Olive Oliver and step-mother Marie Oliver.
