Jim served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. While serving his country he married the woman of his dreams, Gara Blanche Brown. While farming was always in his blood, he paused a bit to go to school; where he started his family in a small trailer on campus at Cal Poly. Eventually farming pulled him back to Shandon, Ca. Jim went back to college at Cal Poly and graduated in 1967; where he received his degree in Ag/Business management. This degree lead him to a job that had him taking care of the grounds of Millilani Memorial Park in Hawaii. Ten Years later he moved to Greeley, Co. where he worked for Raincat Irrigation. It was in Colorado they began their love for camping.
Retiring in 1994 brought the beautiful couple back home to California where Jim was active in People Helping People and working one day a week at the Morro Bay golf course; there he was able to play golf 2 to 3 days a week a few months before his death.
Jim also belonged to the Thaddeus Sherman Lodge, No. 196 F&AM – Paso Robles and the United Methodist Church.
