Betty Jean Kelly - Murray

Betty Jean Murray, born Betty Jean Kelly of Hazel Park, Michigan and Arroyo Grande, California passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side in San Luis Obispo, CA on Monday, June 8th, 2015. Betty was born in 1928 in Bluefield, West Virginia. At two years of age, her parents bought a farm in Castlewood, VA where she was raised with her two brothers and sister. After the birth of her first child, she moved to Detroit, Michigan with her first husband. Betty would marry two more times, having three children from her second marriage and one from her third. Betty worked in Detroit for many years at Holy Cross Hospital retiring at age 65, and continued to work part-time until age 75 at the hospital.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bayard Vorhees Kelley, mother, Frances Ruth Kelley (Spurrier), daughter, Margaret Ruth Boyle (Fraley) and brother William Kelley. She is survived by siblings James Kelley (Lois) of Taylor, MI, Elizabeth “Libby” Sluss (Fred) of Wytheville, VA; children Janet Lynn McCullen (Doe) of St. George, Utah, Pastor Nicholas Kelly Genoff (Tina) of Croswell, MI, Sandra Ellen Genoff (Harry) of Arroyo Grande, CA, and Michael Wayne Murray of Hazel Park, MI; grandsons Ryan Donald Bowren of Madison Heights, MI, Nicholas Raymond Genoff (Liz) of Harrison Twp, MI, and Justin Michael Murray (Katie) of Eastpointe, MI and their recently born daughter Isabella Rose Murray; son-in-law James Boyle of Paducah, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition “adopted” daughters Lorna Hewitt of Arroyo Grande, CA and Kathleen Ramirez of Grover Beach, CA, who called and treated Betty as “Mom”, were at her side providing care, support and peace. Her dog Freckles continues to search for her. Internment at Los Osos Valley Mortuary, Los Osos, CA.
