Born on November 11, 1923 in Anaheim, California, passed away peacefully, On July 1, 2016
in Santa Maria, California.
Survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucille N. Mahoney, sons Michael J. Mahoney and Patrick G.
Mahoney, four grandchildren, Sean, Casey, Matthew Mahoney and Lindsey Jameson, three
great granddaughters.
A love of country, the City of Anaheim and his family directed Bud through a lifetime of
leadership and community service.
At Anaheim High School Bud developed his love for art, serviced as Student Body President
and Attorney General at California Boys State. He was also a star athlete on the Sunset
League baseball team and the CIF Championship football team in 1940.
In 1941 Bud joined the Navy and went to Central College in Missouri and Cornell University
Midshipman's School were he received his commission as a U. S. Naval officer. He spent the
next three years aboard ship in the Pacific Ocean and at Pearl Harbor where he met his wife-
to-be-, Lu, a Navy W.A. V. E. At the end of the war, the couple married in Hawaii and made
their home in Anaheim for the next 52 years.
Back in California after the war, Bud continued his education at USe. Upon his graduation in
1950, Bud became a well-known building contractor, finally retiring in 1989 after constructing
numerous homes, office building, restaurants, and two churches,During this time, Bud and his
wife were blessed with two sons, Mike and Pat. While his sons were growing up, Bud became
active in the Anaheim YMCA, serving on its board of directors. He spent much time improving
YMCA camping facilities at Camp Osceola. He was also chairman of the Anaheim Parks ft
Recreation Commission. Bud was an active member of the Anaheim Arts Council and the Lions
Club. In addition, he coached his sons' Pop Warner football teams and later served as Anaheim
High School's Football Booster Club president.
In 2011 Bud and Lu moved to Nipomo, California were they enjoyed the slower pace of the
Central Coast. In 2016 the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Family will attend a graveside service at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park on Saturday, July 9 at
11am.
