Ruth K. March of Los Angeles, beloved mother,grandmother and great-grandmother, died at her home after an extended illness. She was born in New York City, NY to the late Abraham L. and Ida (Brodkey) Koolish. Ruth was raised in Winnetka, IL where she graduated from New Trier High School in 1941. Soon after graduation she married her first love, Ralph E. Stolkin, with whom she had three children and later moved to California. In 1968, she married her second husband, Robert March.
Ruth lived an adventurous life that included extensive travel worldwide. Charity and philanthropy represented the spirit of Ruth's heart. She kept herself busy for many years at her club playing bridge and tennis. Ruth was active in the Key Club and enjoyed volunteering and fundraising for a multitude of charities and organizations, including the Westside Center for Independent Living, Cedars-Sinai and St. Johns Hospitals. Animals, particularly horses, were near to her heart and especially her racer, Lady Ruthie. She was a patron of the arts and had a keen eye for classical paintings which adorned the walls of her home.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, husbands Ralph E. Stolkin and Robert March, brother David Koolish, daughters Nancy Stolkin Vreeland and Kathy Stolkin Myers and dear friend Charles Kennis. She is survived by son John D. Stolkin (Rosa) of Marina del Rey, grandchildren Leslie Perlman of Los Angeles, Brian Perlman of Colorado, Derek Stolkin of Los Angeles, Scott Stolkin (Lauren) of Moore Park, Josh Brown(Jenny) of Germantown, TN, Anna Laurie Brown of Memphis, TN and great-grandchild Cash Brown of Germantown, TN. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs Ruby and Louie, as well as many dear friends and caregivers.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, July 11 at 1pm at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park, 1218 Glendon Ave in Los Angeles, (310) 474-1579. .Published in the Los Angeles Times on July 9, 2013 Print | View Guest Book . Ruth K. March
